ABSTRACT

Amalgamation of mercury (Hg) is a traditional method used by small -scale gold miners (PESK) to earn gold. The rest of the traditional process in the form of waste (muddy) containing mercury and many other heavy metals dumped in farmland contaminating farmland. Sekotong village, District Sekotong West Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara, is one of the locations that are superbly PESK operating illegally since 2009. Levels of heavy metals in agricultural land can be reduced and neutralized with an inexpensive method, which is known as phytoremediation, ie the use of green plants or microorganisms are associated, to absorb, move, inactivate, as well as reduce the content of toxic compounds in the soil. The purpose of this research is to study and know the potential Jukut Pahit (Paspalum conjugatum L.), fitoekstrasi mercury (Hg) in soil contaminated with small scale gold mining waste and study the effect of adding ammonium thiosulfate to fitoekstrasi mercury by Jukut Pahit (Paspalum conjugatum L.) on soil contaminated small-scale gold mining waste . The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Soil Brawijaya University and in a shade house located in the area of Dermo, Sengkaling.

The results showed T2 (amalgamation) contaminated soil contains Hg higher than T1 (tailings cyanidation) contaminated soil. Ammonium thiosulfate additions can increase the uptake of Hg in plants Paspalum conjugatum L. and can reduce the content of Hg in soil contaminated tailings. Additionally Jukut Pahit (Paspalum conjugatum L.) has the potential to reduce the content of heavy metals in Hg higher in soil contaminated tailings that Hg content in the soil is reduced. At T1L2 ( cyanidation tailings + 8 g of ammonium thiosulfate/ kg media) Paspalum conjugatum L. plants are able to absorb Hg at 300.42 mg / kg , equivalent to 91.87 %. and on T2L2 (amalgamation tailings + 8 g of ammonium thiosulfate/ kg media) Paspalum conjugatum L plants are able to absorb Hg at 374.58 mg/ kg, equivalent to 95.16 %.
